Higher earners pay Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA)
This tool is for higher earners—and anyone whose income is near the thresholds—who want to know whether income-based surcharges will apply to their Part B and Part D premiums. You'll learn whether the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) affects you and roughly how much it adds to your monthly costs.
To use the IRMAA calculator, enter your 2024 Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) and pick your tax filing status. The tool then shows your estimated 2026 Part B and Part D surcharges. Keep in mind that IRMAA is based on your income from two years prior, so your 2026 surcharges are determined by what you reported for 2024. If your income has dropped since then because of a life-changing event, you may be able to request a review from Social Security.

Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the IRMAA calculator?
The calculator uses the published 2026 IRMAA brackets and the income you enter to estimate your surcharges. Because it relies on the numbers you provide, the result is an estimate rather than a guarantee. Social Security sets your actual surcharge using the income reported on your IRS tax return. For your specific situation, confirm the details with a licensed Medicare advisor.
What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Supplement plan?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) bundles your coverage through a private plan that usually has provider networks and may include extra benefits. A Medicare Supplement, also called Medigap, works alongside Original Medicare to help cover out-of-pocket costs like coinsurance and deductibles. With a Supplement, you can generally see any doctor who accepts Medicare, without network restrictions. Which option fits you best depends on your priorities around cost, flexibility, and the providers you want to keep.
Can I use these tools if I'm not yet on Medicare?
Yes. These tools are built for people planning ahead, especially those approaching 65 and getting ready to enroll.
